1 New Park Square is the first building at the heart of Parabola’s Edinburgh Park development providing 8,500m² of office space and setting the standard for a business community powered by zero-carbon energy and zero emissions heating.
Parabola have developed a mixed-use development plan including commercial, retail and multi-storey car park for the Edinburgh Park site. With renewable energy and sustainability being such key issues within the built environment, Parabola ensured these issues are addressed at the forefront with their designers.
The Hulley & Kirkwood MEP design for this new office building responds to the brief with sustainability principles at its core. The design of the building elevations was informed by Dynamic Simulation modelling to minimise solar gains. The generous floor to soffit dimensions create a natural light and airy environment and the exposed concrete soffit also facilitates night purge free cooling.
A full fresh air variable volume displacement ventilation strategy is used with opening windows providing supplementary natural ventilation. This provides a safe and resilient “post-Covid” ventilation strategy. Reverse cycle air source heat pumps provide heating and cooling to full fresh air AHU plant. All electric air source heat pumps supply perimeter heating and hot water generation.
Further MEP and sustainable design features include; bio solar photo-voltaic roof, LED daylight linked flexible track lighting, WiredScore Platinum ICT installation. The overall development is supported by an all-electric infrastructure, future proofed for carbon neutrality.
The Hulley ECO team provided sustainable design advice, infrastructure master-planning feasibility studies and BREEAM assessor services. The completed building achieves a BREEAM Excellent rating and EPC “A”.
