Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed to carry out the detail design for the conversion of the retail unit in the Wood Green Shopping Centre into a new community diagnostic hub.
The new centre delivers ultrasound, X-ray, ophthalmology and phlebotomy to provide patients with life-saving checks close to their homes.
Existing services provision to the retail unit were inadequate to support increased demand from the new diagnostic facilities. Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed from the feasibility stage to ensure enhanced services could be provided to the new unit. As a result, extensive internal upgrade of the landlord's building services were carried out to meet increased demand from the new facilities.
The conversion of the existing retail space to the diagnostic centre included the provision of new chiller / heat pump and air handling unit. Dynamic Simulation Modelling was used to evaluate the building's thermal performance and inform the design of the energy efficient cooling and heating, ventilation and lighting solutions achieving reduced running costs for the facility.
The AHU and ventilation system design ensured that the facilities would be “Covid safe” by providing a full fresh air ventilation system meeting current HTM regulations.
