Employed by Mitie Engineering Group plc., Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed to carry out the full M&E design in order to facilitate the creation of a new rotative facility within a section of the existing Rolls Royce Inchinnan facility.

This project encompassed some specific logistical challenges in that the project had to be undertaken within the confines of a fully live and operational facility with little to no scope for downtime. To ensure minimal impact on the operation of the existing facility, Hulley & Kirkwood liaised closely with the incumbent service provider (Mitie) as well as the client team throughout the duration of the project.

In order to support the provision of new specialist equipment and machinery within the project, there was a requirement to fully upgrade and replace one of the facilities substations and associated HV/LV switchgear whilst maintaining the operational capability of the facility.

As part of the project the existing high level fluorescent general and emergency lighting was replaced with a full new LED lighting scheme, increasing the energy efficiency.

General M&E services provided for the project area included extension of the existing fire alarm system, provision of new data infrastructure (extended from existing) to support the operation of new equipment, extension of the existing compressed air, gas and water installations. 

In addition, the project included the installation of a number of individual specialist equipment rooms provided by third party specialists. Hulley & Kirkwood liaised closely with these third-party providers in order to provide interface connections with the site wide infrastructure to ensure integration of their package into the facility as a whole.
