Developed by ONE Life Sciences, University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, NHS Grampian and Scottish Enterprise within the Foresterhill Health Campus, this new facility provides life-sciences incubator space for new companies, bespoke accommodation for growing established businesses, and business growth support in a collaborative environment.
The new building, extending to some 6,400m² GIFA, constructed over three principal floors provides custom-built laboratory and office facilities essential for life sciences start-ups and high-growth enterprises.
Core to the design of the facility was the agility required in the MEP services to respond to prospective requirements of the life science's tenants. Hulley & Kirkwood worked to develop a MEP building servicing strategy that was efficient whilst flexible and accommodating.
A low-carbon energy strategy was developed for the new facility that responds to the City Council's aspirations and wider national net-zero requirements, all in reaction to the Climate Emergency. The building is almost exclusively supported by electrical power (offset with PV generation), with heating and cooling facilitated by high efficiency heat-pumps, recognising the current and anticipated electrical grid decarbonisation.
