Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed by Devon & Cornwall Police to provide the M&E design for their new sports hall facility, located at their headquarters in Exeter.
The new facility comprises a 4-court sports hall with attached fitness suite, changing accommodation and rehabilitation/physiotherapy rooms, providing space for police activities such as self-defence, taser training, night simulation exercises and parade drills, as well as recreational sports.
The M&E design aligns with Exeter City Council’s focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, as well as providing control measures particular to the client’s requirements.
These include:-
Natural ventilation via windcatchers with sports-specific set back controls.
Air source heat pump generated domestic hot water.
High efficiency LED lighting, zoned and incorporating multiple output levels to allow for dusk/night simulation.
Low SFP MVHR units with high-efficiency heat recovery.
Water wastage control measures.
Full BMS control over the HVAC systems.
