Hulley & Kirkwood undertook the MEP services design for the 74 bed mental health unit via the P22+ NHS Framework with Integrated Health Projects.

The MEP services brief was developed in close liaison with key stakeholders, user groups and the Estates Directorate in order to develop a robust design.  

The design role included building performance Dynamic Simulation Modelling in order to confirm compliance with planning conditions, building regulations and supporting an energy efficient building to meet BREEAM Excellent requirements.

Summer time overheating analysis, both for current and future weather file conditions were undertaken developing a comfortable indoor environment using a mix of natural and mechanical ventilation.

Heating was provided by air source heat pumps serving underfloor heating throughout.  VRV air conditioning provided to localised rooms requiring cooling for operational purposes. Energy efficient LED lighting was used throughout the building with daylight sensing and absence detection. 

Assistance was provided to IHP during the procurement process to ensure alignment of contractor proposals with the design.  Through construction we remained involved in reviewing technical submittals and installation working details. Quality inspections were carried out to ensure specification compliance and high installation quality standards were adhered to.

The scheme included site infrastructure alterations to support the scheme and subsequent sale of land to fund the project.
